How to Easily Get a UK Visa

The process of applying for a UK visa will depend based on your home country, which visa you are trying to get, and the country in which you are currently living. Depending on your reason for going to the UK, there are varieties of different visas that you can apply for including visiting, studying, working and permanent residence. Here are a few basic steps that you will need to take in order to get a UK visa.

  1. Visit the official UK Border Agency website to determine if your purpose for traveling to the UK will require a visa. You can access the website at ukvisas.gov.uk, to get information about different types of visas, how to file an application, and supporting documents you may need to acquire for the visa process.

  2. File the correct application corresponding to your purpose for traveling to the United Kingdom. Once you know which visa you need to apply for, the first step will be to complete an application online. Filing online applications is the method that is preferred by the UK Border Agency; however, if you live in a country that does not permit online applications, locate the visa application centre in your country and visit it to file your application.
  3. Pay for your visa application when you submit your application form. If you file your application online, you can pay by credit card, otherwise you will need to pay at a visa application centre. You must pay for your visa application or your application will not be processed.
  4. Make an appointment to submit your biometric information after you receive notification that your visa application has been received. In most cases, you can also make your biometrics appointment online, but if you are unable to do so, you should visit your local visa application centre for biometric submission.
  5. Arrive at your biometrics appointment on time, prepared and dressed appropriately. In most cases, you will need to bring your appointment confirmation and your passport. All 10 of your fingerprints will be taken as well as a photograph of your face. Make sure you do not have any cuts or abrasions on your fingers or your face before arriving at your appointment. Dress plainly and do not wear hats, sunglasses, scarves, decorations, temporary tattoos or any other article that could prevent a clear photograph of your likeness from being taken.
  6. Post a copy of your visa application, your confirmation of submitted biometrics, your passport and any required supporting documents to your country's closest British consulate

Tips

  • It is recommended that you apply for your visa months ahead of your planned date of travel to the United Kingdom. The visa process can take several months to complete in some cases, so plan ahead and leave yourself enough time to receive your visa before traveling.
  • Abstain from booking your flight or making other travel plans until you have received your UK visa.
  • If your application is denied and you feel that this has been an error, you can apply for an administrative review, and your application will be reviewed again at no extra charge, as long as you file for a review within a given amount of time.

Warnings

  • Some UK visa applications have a maintenance requirement in which you must have evidence that you have held a certain amount of money in your personal bank account for a given amount of time. Read up on your particular visa and make sure that you have held the necessary funds for at least the minimum amount of time required. If you have not held the minimum amount of money for the minimum amount of time required, your application will be denied.
